AC/DC Current Measurement

Dewesoft offers high-accuracy zero-flux current transducers, iron-core current transformers, hall-compensated and iron core current clamps, Rogowski coils, and shunts for AC and DC current measurement.

High Accuracy

Highly precise zero flux current transducers or fluxgate compensated clamps are a perfect fit for the most demanding power measurements for E-mobility and electric motor and inverter testing applications.

Up to 30 000 A

We offer a very wide range of current measurement ranges for mili Amps all the way up to 30 000 (30 thousand) Amps.

-40°C to +85°C

Our current transducers can operate in a very wide temperature range and various environments. This is ideal for winter (down to -40°C) or summer climate testing (up to +85°C).

Integrated Sensor Power Supply

The majority of the current transducers can be powered directly out of the Dewesoft data acquisition devices, such as SIRIUS, SIRIUS XHS, R2DB, R8, or KRYPTON. For current transducers with a higher power demand such as zero flux transducers and fluxgate transducers we offer a power module that plugs into our DAQs and is also available as external device.

TEDS Compatibility

The majority of current transducers are TEDS IEEE1451.4 compatible, which makes them plug and play. Connecting the current transducer to the DAQ device will initiate automatic sensor recognition and settings will be configured automatically. Current transducers with multiple measurement ranges are unfortunately not TEDS IEEE 1451.4 compatible and these have to be manually set up in the software.

3rd party transducers

There are more than 1000 different current sensors are available on the market. If you want to connect your own current sensors, we are delighted to help you here. Dewesoft DAQ systems allow connecting any type of current transducers.

DC-CT® current transducers

Dewesoft DC-CT® current transducers are designed for precise current measurement applications. It is based on current-controlled variable reluctance (CCVR). It offers all the benefits of a zero-flux current transducer but with lower power consumption and in a smaller form factor.

The DC-CT® transducers can be seen as an AC current transformer, where primary and secondary windings are coupled by a common high permeability core. Just as with other closed-loop techniques our technology continuously measures residual magnetic flux in the core resulting from the difference between the primary and secondary currents. The detected difference drives the feedback control mechanism that adjusts the current in the compensation winding to achieve the optimal zero-flux balance in the core.

DC-CT® technology with the Platiše Flux Sensor (PFS) represents the latest current sensing technology suitable for accurate current measurements. The device offers:

  • A wide measurement range.

  • High bandwidth.

  • Excellent linearity.

  • Very high accuracy.

  • Very low-temperature drift.

  • Low power consumption compared to other zero-flux type current transducers. Lower power consumption also enables a more compact form factor.

Zero-Flux Transducers High-Precision Current Sensors

Dewesoft IT series of zero-flux transducers offer highly precise current measurements with linearity below 0.002% ranging from 100 A to 2000 A RMS, featuring up to 2 MHz bandwidth which makes them perfect for E-Mobility and inverter motor measurements.

Use integrated Dewesoft SIRIUS PWR-MCTS2 power supply for powering these current transducers directly from Dewesoft instruments without any external power supply.

Iron-Core Current Transformers

The iron-core current clamp works on the principle of a transformer. Depending on the number of windings on the primary side compared to the secondary side (turns ratio), a certain current will be induced on the secondary side. Like any transformer, this only works for measuring AC current.

The DS-CLAMP-xxAC offers measurement ranges from 5 ACRMS up to 1000 ACRMS, with a bandwidth up to 10kHz. Measurement accuracy is from 0,3% to 3,5% depending on the measurement range.

Iron core clamps offer operating temperatures from -40°C to +70°C, and the ability to measure coil diameters from 50 mm up to 52 mm depending on the model.

Hall-Compensated Current Clamps

The Hall Effect is conveniently used to measure both the AC and DC current. The advantages of hall-compensated AC/DC current clamps are high accuracy, a high bandwidth, the measurement of AC and DC currents and the circuit doesn't need to be opened.

The DS-CLAMP-xxDC offers measurement ranges up to 1800 A DC and ACrms, with a bandwidth of up to 100 kHz depending on the model.

Hall-compensated clamps offer measurement accuracy from 1% to 3,5% depending on the measurement range. Operating temperatures from 0°C to 50°C, and the ability to measure coil diameters of up to 32 mm depending on the model.

Fluxgate Current Clamps

Fluxgate current sensors make use of a high permeability magnetic core in order to ascertain the magnetic field that is produced as the current flows through a conductor. Fluxgate technology depends on a negative feedback circuit, including a magnetic circuit. This is done by reverting a current back through the feedback coil so that the magnetic flux can be canceled out. The magnetic flux is caused in the coil by the current that is measured. This decreases the effect of the material’s magnetic nonlinearity, as it is compensated and can be kept low.

The DS-CLAMP-xxDC offers measurement ranges up to 1000 A DC and ACrms, with a bandwidth up to 500 kHz depending on the model.

They offer excellent accuracy of 0,3% depending on the measurement range. Operating temperatures from -40°C to 85°C, and the ability to measure coil diameters of up to 50 mm depending on the model.

These current transducers require a separate PWR-MCTS2 power supply unit. See below for PRW-MCTS2.

Rogowsky Coil Current Probes

Rogowsky coils are easy to install and therefore perfect for field measurements.

A wide variety of ranges are available from 3 A to 30.000 A ACrms with accuracies down to 0.1 %. The bandwidth is starting from 10 Hz and is ending at 1 MHz.

Current Shunt DSI Current Adapters

While some amplifiers offer direct measurements of small range current inputs. Dewesoft offers external shunt adapters for direct current measurement. The DSI adapters are compatible with all Dewesoft data acquisition systems that have DSUB9 input connectors. The following DSI shunt current adapters are available:

  • DSI-20mA - 20 mA current input adapter with 50 Ohm internal shunt, 0.05% accuracy for sensors with 4 to 20 mA output.

  • DSIw-20mA - Waterproof version of the DSI-20mA adapter. It uses a 50 Ω shunt resistor with 0.01 % accuracy and 0.2 ppm/K temperature drift (0.05 ppm/K in the temperature range 0 °C to 60 °C). It is designed for sensing current from industrial sensors with 4-20 mA output in harsh environments. It is designed with a double DSUB9 adapter hood with IP67 protection.

  • DSI-5A - The new 5A current input adapter. Contains a 10 mΩ shunt resistor with 0.1% accuracy when calibrated. The new DSI-5A adapter has significant improvement is in temperature stability. The new shunt resistor has two times better temperature coefficient (now 15 ppm/K over the range -55 °C to +125 °C, before 30 ppm/K over the range -20 °C to +60 °C).

  • DSIi-10A - isolated current transducer with 10 A FS and < 0.5% accuracy with banana connector inputs.

  • DSIi-20A - isolated current transducer with 20 A FS and < 0.5% accuracy with banana connector inputs.

Please note that isolated voltage input amplifiers are required for connecting shunt resistor adapters.
