DewesoftX 2023.2 Released - New Virtual Polygon module and other cool updates

We are excited to announce the release of DewesoftX 2023.2. This new version of our award-winning DAQ software includes a newly enhanced Polygon module, with improved vehicle geometry and advanced 3D visualization. In addition, an all-new microphone correction module allows you to make even more standardized noise measurements. Also, we’ve added another batch of capabilities to our Processing markers, increasing their functionality and ease of use.

But no matter how many features and capabilities we add, our goal is always to keep the software easy to use. Therefore we have created a new simplified view for adding different devices and modules, and have made it easy to copy and paste properties from one widget to another. Here are the major improvements in DewesoftX 2023.2:

  • New Polygon With Improved Vehicle Geometry

  • Microphone Correction Module

  • Processing Markers Improvements

  • Simplified UI for Adding Network Devices, MU, and Device modules

  • Copy Widget properties

  • What Else is New?

Please check out the "What Else is New?" section, because there are even more improvements described there. We are sure you will find that this version of Dewesoft is even more powerful and versatile than ever before.

A new polygon with improved vehicle geometry

We're excited to announce that Dewesoft 2023.2 includes a significant update to our Polygon module. Polygon is a powerful tool for measuring relative distances between objects, which is essential for various testing procedures such as ADAS testingVehicle Dynamics, Pass-By noise, Brake tests, and customized test procedures. This latest update is specifically designed to enhance modern ADAS validation testing. You'll appreciate the improved flexibility in object geometries and calculations with a completely new visualization powered by the Dewesoft Map widget.

Object geometry can now be defined with multiple geometric primitives: points, polylines, polygons, and arcs. Distance calculations are now supported for any combination of object geometries. We also added an option to calculate if geometries overlap one another and the calculation of time to collision according to EuroNCAP.

The visualization of Polygon objects is now brought to a completely new level with the support of the Dewesoft Map widget. Now, Polygon objects can be viewed on a realistic map layer, which reduces the chance of setup errors. Objects can be visualized with any 3D model supported in the Map widget.

Adding different objects

The newly rewritten Polygon module comes packed with a variety of additional features that are now documented in an updated manual. Due to the complete rewrite, backward compatibility couldn’t be maintained, meaning that data files and setups created with the old Polygon module can not be opened with the new one. To make a transition from the old to the new Polygon as seamless as possible, both versions can run in parallel. Existing users can update to the new version of Polygon for free, and the same license can be used for both old and newer versions.

Microphone correction module

The new free Microphone correction module is designed to correct sound pressure levels and spectral data for the microphone response, system frequency response, sound incidence angle, air absorption and many more. These corrections ensure that your noise measurements are accurate and meet industry standards.

Microphone correction module setup

The Microphone correction module is designed to help you set up a group of microphones, where each will be corrected for their individual responses, distances and angles. For example, SPL, octave- and FFT spectra can be compared with and without applied corrections. The typical workflow for these DUT (Device Under Test) noise measurements is fully described in the online manual.

An application where these corrections must be applied to all microphones could be when performing static aircraft engine noise ground tests.

Processing markers improvements

The Processing Markers have been improved with a group of new functionalities, making them an even more powerful tool for in-depth data analysis.

You can now add a marker on the widget with a single click: simply select the desired marker from the marker icons menu, then click on the widget. When adding a marker to a zoomed-in area of the 2D graph, the marker value is now automatically calculated on that specific area, making the process faster and more efficient. The marker values displayed now take into account the scaling selected on the widget. The value on the marker label and inside the marker table is automatically refreshed when you change the widget scaling.

In addition, we introduce new advanced settings for the max marker on 3D graphs. These settings allow you to define the number of peaks or maxima you want to determine and allow you to specify their placement in relation to other peaks. This provides greater control over the visualization of analyzed data.

Different arrangements of max marker due to different advanced settings

A new optional column is now available in the marker table. This column can display additional values, such as the related order or frequency information and speed rpm to Order tracking waterfall channels. When you hover the cursor over the 3D graph, these same additional parameters are now shown at the top of the graph, providing even quicker insight into the data:

You can now easily unassign markers from widgets, giving you complete control over how you choose to display them. You can now freely display different marker parameters on each widget, making your reports clearer and more customizable.

Simplified UI for adding network devices, MUs, and device modules in Dewesoft NET

Our new simplified user interface for adding network devices MUs (Measurement Units) and device modules is now consistent with all other Add menus, making this process more intuitive. Additional network information for MUs and network devices, such as device name, IP address, and device location, can be found at the bottom of the menu. Simply hover the cursor over the item of interest to see them.

Also, now you can add multiple items to the system configuration at the same time, making the procedure faster and easier than ever before.

New copy widget properties functionality

The new 2023.2 version of DewesoftX introduces a new Paste Special feature which allows you to quickly copy and paste widget properties and axis values between widgets. This user-friendly solution streamlines your workflow, saving you time and making it easier than ever to create custom displays.

To use this functionality, simply switch to the Design mode, right-click on the source widget, and select Copy Widget group to clipboard, or simply use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + C”. Next, move to the target widget and right-click again. Here you simply select the Widget group properties option under the Paste Special menu. This will paste the copied properties and axis values onto the target widget. It’s that easy!
