DewesoftRT is embedded measurement software that runs directly on Dewesoft data acquisition hardware. It brings data processing, storage, communication, and decision-making capabilities directly to the measurement device, allowing it to operate independently without a continuously connected computer.
Traditionally, a DAQ system acquires measurement data and sends it to a computer running DewesoftX for processing, visualization, and storage. With DewesoftRT, many of these tasks can instead be performed directly on the DAQ device. The device can acquire signals, perform calculations and signal processing, evaluate conditions, trigger actions, store data locally, and exchange data with other systems. The current embedded processing includes functions such as formulas, statistics, filtering, strain calculations, alarms, and triggered data storage.
This makes DewesoftRT ideal for standalone, distributed, and embedded measurement applications where keeping a dedicated computer next to every DAQ is impractical or unnecessary. Measurement systems can be installed close to the sensors and operate autonomously, while transmitting only the raw or processed information that other systems actually need.
DewesoftX remains an integral part of the ecosystem. You can use it to configure and work with DewesoftRT devices, or continue using the traditional architecture where measurement data is streamed to DewesoftX and processed on a PC. DewesoftRT simply gives you the flexibility to decide where the processing happens: on the PC, at the edge, or across both. Your internal use cases explicitly support this hybrid approach, including sending raw and embedded calculated data from the device to DewesoftX.
Moving data processing from a central computer directly to the measurement device changes what a DAQ system can do. Instead of continuously sending all raw data to an external PC, DewesoftRT lets the device process, evaluate, store, and exchange data locally, right where the measurement takes place.
This is especially useful for standalone and distributed measurement systems, permanent monitoring installations, mobile testing, and applications where a dedicated PC would add unnecessary cost, complexity, or a potential point of failure.
With DewesoftRT, edge processing brings several practical benefits:
Standalone Operation: Once configured, the measurement device can acquire, process, and store data independently without a permanently connected computer. Connect DewesoftX when you need it, or let the device operate autonomously.
Process Data Close to the Source: Perform calculations and signal processing directly on the measurement device. Formula math, statistics, filtering, strain calculations, and other processing can run locally without sending raw data to a computer first.
Reduce Data Transfer: Process high-speed measurement data locally and transmit only the information another system needs. This reduces network traffic while raw data can still be stored or transmitted when required.
React to Events Locally: Evaluate measurement conditions directly on the device to trigger recording, detect limits, generate alarms, or activate outputs. Decisions can be made locally without relying on communication with a remote computer.
Build Distributed Measurement Systems: Deploy intelligent measurement nodes close to sensors and let each device acquire and process its own data. Raw and processed data can then be shared with DewesoftX, SCADA systems, cloud platforms, or custom software.
Store Data on the Device: Record measurement data directly on the device, including triggered recordings. Measurements can continue even when a network connection or external computer is unavailable.
Configure your complete measurement setup in the familiar DewesoftX environment. Set up sensors and measurement channels, define calculations and triggers, configure data storage, and select communication options through a graphical interface.
Once the setup is ready, deploy it directly to the measurement device. DewesoftRT takes over and runs the configuration autonomously, acquiring, processing, storing, and exchanging data without requiring a permanently connected computer.
The configuration is stored persistently on the device and starts automatically when the device is powered on. This makes it easy to prepare and test your measurement setup in DewesoftX, then deploy the system for reliable standalone operation in the field.
When access to the device is needed, DewesoftM can be used as an openDAQ client to connect remotely, monitor live measurement data, and adjust the device configuration.
Turn raw measurement signals into meaningful results directly on the measurement device. DewesoftRT processes data in real time, allowing calculations and signal processing to run continuously without relying on an external computer.
Build your processing chain using ready-to-use function blocks for filtering, calculations, statistics, alarms, and other measurement tasks. Processed results can be used for further calculations, stored directly on the device, or shared with other systems.
Use Formula Math to combine measurement channels, apply mathematical functions, and create application-specific calculations. Calculated results are available alongside the original measurement channels for further processing, storage, or transmission.
Process measurement signals directly at the source using embedded IIR and FIR filters, statistics such as minimum, maximum, RMS, and average, integration and derivation, decimation, strain calculations, and other processing functions.
Use alarms and measurement conditions to make the system react to acquired or calculated data. Define trigger-like conditions and link measurement logic directly to digital outputs for autonomous operation.
DewesoftRT uses a modular function-block architecture that can extend on-device processing for specific measurement applications, from general signal processing to specialized calculations such as power analysis.
Record measurement data directly on the device without relying on a continuously connected computer or network connection. DewesoftRT can store data autonomously and use configurable trigger conditions to capture exactly when and what you need.
Multiple storage engines can run independently, allowing a single device to record different groups of channels using different storage conditions. For example, you can continuously record selected channels while high-speed data is stored only when a specific event or trigger occurs. DewesoftRT supports multiple triggered storage modules directly on the device.
Choose the storage format that best fits your measurement application:
Dewesoft DXD for high-speed measurement data, complete measurement files, and further analysis in DewesoftX.
CSV for low-speed data and simple exchange with third-party tools and applications.
Chapter 10 (CH10) for aerospace recording, telemetry, and Ethernet or UART data capture applications.
Custom data format is possible with custom function block development.
* Chapter 10 recording is available as a dedicated DewesoftRT package.
Use trigger conditions to control when data recording starts and stops. Instead of continuously storing every signal at full data rate, configure the device to capture high-resolution data around specific events while maintaining continuous recording for other measurement channels.
Configure multiple storage engines independently within the same measurement application. Different channel groups can use their own recording conditions and storage settings, giving you the flexibility to combine continuous, triggered, and event-based recording on a single device.
Access stored measurement files remotely through SFTP without physically connecting to the device. Completed recordings can also be transferred automatically to a remote server, simplifying data collection from unattended and distributed measurement systems.
DewesoftRT can connect your measurement system directly to industrial automation, vehicles, aerospace systems, databases, cloud platforms, and custom applications.
DewesoftRT supports multiple industry-standard communication protocols, allowing the measurement device to exchange raw and processed data with external systems without relying on an intermediate computer.
Depending on the protocol, DewesoftRT can publish measurement values, receive data and commands, exchange calculated results, or stream measurement data to other systems.
Industrial automation: Integrate with machines, PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial equipment using OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, EtherCAT, and analog or digital I/O.
Automotive and railway: Connect with vehicle networks, ECUs, test benches, and railway systems using CAN, CAN FD, XCP, ASAM CMP, and TRDP.
Aerospace: Record and stream measurement data using IRIG 106 Chapter 10 for integration with aerospace data acquisition, recording, and telemetry systems.
IoT and cloud: Use MQTT to publish and subscribe to measurement data for integration with IoT, cloud, and third-party platforms.
Open integration: Use openDAQ to access measurement data from DewesoftX, DewesoftM, or custom applications. Raw and processed measurement data can be made available to other software through an open and vendor-independent interface.
With processing, storage, and communication running directly on the device, DewesoftRT turns the DAQ into an intelligent measurement node that connects sensors and signals with machines, vehicles, networks, and software platforms.
DewesoftRT devices are built on openDAQ, an open-source software development kit (SDK) designed to simplify the integration of test and measurement hardware into custom software applications.
Instead of relying on proprietary interfaces, developers can use a common API to discover compatible devices, access measurement channels and data, read device properties, and configure the measurement system programmatically. openDAQ supports device discovery, configuration, and high-performance data streaming through a standardized software interface.
Build your application using familiar programming languages and development environments, including:
Python
C++
C#
LabVIEW
This gives developers the freedom to build custom user interfaces, automated test systems, monitoring applications, data processing tools, and specialized software while continuing to use Dewesoft measurement hardware and DewesoftRT processing capabilities.
The same device can be accessed through DewesoftX, DewesoftM, another compatible openDAQ client, or your own custom application, giving you the flexibility to use Dewesoft software, develop your own solution, or combine both approaches.
Because openDAQ is open source and designed for cross-vendor interoperability, DewesoftRT also provides a foundation for integrating Dewesoft devices into broader measurement systems without locking the application to a proprietary software ecosystem.
DewesoftRT is designed for measurement applications where data needs to be acquired, processed, stored, and exchanged independently at the edge. From portable data loggers to distributed monitoring systems, DewesoftRT brings measurement intelligence directly to where the data is generated.
Standalone and Mobile Data Acquisition: Run complete measurement applications without a permanently connected computer. Ideal for field testing, service measurements, portable systems, and unattended data recording.
