Since October 2018, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China are connected by a 14-billion-euro bridge. The state of the record bridge is monitored by technologies from Dewesoft and ASC.
The gigantic steel bridge spans the river delta on the South China Sea in the form of a Y-symbol: it connects the financial capital of Hong Kong with the gambling city of Macao and the industrial region Zhuhai on the Chinese mainland. With 55 kilometers - and 14 billion euros in costs, the world’s longest sea bridge is not only a financial, but also a technological show of strength: especially as the bridge spans the delta of a busy waterway, the Pearl River. Collisions between tankers and bridge piers are - in the truest sense of the word - inevitable.
How such an impact affects the bridge infrastructure is determined by measurement data collected by Dewesoft acquisition units and accelerometers from ASC. The two partners are therefore essential for the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of this billion Euro connection: More specifically, in the condition monitoring Dewesoft applies "Krypton" - this measurement unit allows decentralized measurements over long distances and brings the data acquisition even closer to the ASC sensors. These - more precisely, capacitive acceleration sensors – type ASC CS-1611LN - enable signal transmission without loss even with long lengths of cable.
